“We work directly with different artisan groups overseas…in Guatemala, the Philippines, [and] we just picked up new partnerships in Mexico, but then, over the years, we’ve also sourced things from Turkey, from India, so literally [from] all over.”

“We’ve gotten a ton of community support that I don’t think we ever would’ve imagined.” says Anthony. “Everybody can make paper flowers. Everything we’ve designed from the ground up is for beginners, and by the end of [a] class, they see that they can bloom like a beautiful flower with their own two hands.”

This episode features Straight to Ale, Huntsville’s longest-running brewery that’s a local staple for more than just its glorious beer. They’ve spent the last decade growing, moving from a 10,000 square foot facility into their 80,000 square foot operation in Campus 805, and Matt, the operations manager, says he’s “lucky every day I get to come to work and keep goin’.”
But what exactly is going on at Straight to Ale?
“When you come in the front door, you instantly enter our taproom. We’ve got a sixty-foot bar, we’ve got 20 taps of beer on all the time. [Outside], you come out to our outdoor patio. If you find your way down the hallways of Campus 805, you might find the speakeasy. And we also have the High Falls tasting room just a little bit further down the hallway that features our wines.”
And Matt doesn’t even touch on the food – the delicious, delicious food, our personal favorite of the selection being the jerk chicken tacos.

This episode features Botanica Plant Shop, Huntsville’s very first house plant shop that serves springy green leaves and good vibes. You can your perfect plant baby here thanks to the help of knowledgeable staff like shop manager Stephanie, who walked us around the shop and shared some of her personal journey with becoming a part of the Huntsville community.
“I’ve been able to develop a really cool plant community with folks. A lot of us have a similar story – depression and a little anxiety. Coronavirus boosted that for many of us and we are just finding that ‘hey, I feel better when I have these plants in my home and when I’m caring for these plants.’”
Stephanie also gave us insight into why her most highly recommended plants are zizis and snake plants, which are practically indestructible, and pothos, because they’re ‘more versatile and have a lot of variety.’ But her favorite? Monsteras.
